It really was quite cute. It was the evening of January 1st 2004 and I had not long put our 3 year old son to bed, Josh and I were getting ready to watch a movie, and Josh said he just had to go and lock the car. So he got up and went outside. Then I heard our son's little feet running up the hallway. I just thought he was getting up for a drink or something. Then the next thing I heard was his little voice saying "MARRY DADDY!" I spun around so quickly, I kicked my glass off the coffee table, and saw my son holding a ring box!! Then Josh came around the corner, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!! Of course I said yes!!

It took about one and a half years to plan the wedding (just doing things little by little.) It was a bit of a team effort - we did the wedding favors and invitations. My mother and aunt made my bridesmaids dress, and my other aunt made our cake.

Both the ceremony and reception were held at The Station Cafe in Hamilton. We didn't have a theme as such, but we decided on silver and navy as the colours.

The ceremony was written just for us and involved our son, we really wanted him to be involved as he was from the beginning. Walking back down the aisle after the ceremony, with our son holding our hands was extremely special!!

And the weather!! It rained and rained the whole week leading up to the wedding. The night before I was getting a little worried as we were having our pictures taken outside. But when I woke in the morning, the sun was shining and the birds were singing!!! I couldn't believe it!!!

Everyone who we wanted to be there was able to make it, the food was amazing - it was just perfect!

I wore a beautiful ivory dress I bought from the Bridal Gallery in Hamilton. It was strapless and the bodice was very lightly beaded, it had no train and was very classic. Not over the top at all!!

Josh wore a gorgeous black suit from Dorsets Suit Hire in Hamilton, with a crisp white shirt underneath, no tie. He looked so hansome!

Josh's best man wore the exact same suit as he did. My bridesmaid wore a navy blue, strapless dress that my mother and my aunt made, with a navy blue organza shawl.

Definitely the kiss and the first dance as husband and wife!!

The speeches, without a doubt!! Our MC had everyone in stitches!!!

Josh and I have talked about this. We really wouldn't change anything at all. Everything was perfect!! Our best decision though - I think, is having the ceremony and the reception in the same place, and having our photos taken before the ceremony, as this allowed us to spend the whole day with our guests and we didn't have to leave them for a couple of hours to go and get our photos taken.

It was really just a weekend, it's hard to get away for a holiday when you have a child already. We went to Rotorua and went to the Polynesian Spa for a couple of treatments!! It was wonderful!!

It's fantastic!! We have another child now and are buying our first house - things couldn't be better!!
