Romantic rural style

Last September Wade bought Kathleen a beautiful jewellery box as a seventh anniversary gift - imagine her face when she found her dream engagement ring inside.

"It was a huge surprise.  Totally unexpected and very emotional because he chose the ring and even had it sized without my knowledge" explains Kathleen.  "I absolutely love the ring" she adds.

Kathleen and Wade are farming folk, so June (the rural quiet season) was the obvious time to get hitched.

Their engagement wasn't quiet though - they got stuck in to the wedding preparations and did much of the work themselves.

Kathleen made their invitations, scouted for table decorations, made her dress (with some help with the tricky bits), and boxes for their wedding favours, and both Wade and Kathleen worked on a new garden designed especially for their ceremony.

Then everyone held their breath and prayed for good weather!

It worked and, on a perfect June day, they held the ceremony in their new garden followed by a reception at the local hall.

These people love colour and they used it - the wedding theme was red, black and silver.

Kathleen wore a vibrant red wedding dress and black hooded cloak, Wade and their attendants were in matching red and black.

Even the page boy and flower girl followed the theme in miniatures of Kathleen and Wade's outfits.

Kathleen's mum whipped up a perfect rural landscape cake complete with verdant grass and grazing cows.

Not content with that, she made 50 individual cakes as wedding favours.

The surprises kept coming after the day as pictures from disposable cameras were developed.

"It's given us a fun look at what our guests got up to" laughs Kathleen.

A honeymoon on the Gold Coast complete with theme park visits and it was back to the farm and reality.

And how's married life?  "Fantastic and more romantic than ever".
