Your pre-wedding beauty treatments
Aug 6th, 2012, 1:14pm

Hello!

What are you doing/did you do prior to your wedding day to make you look/feel great on the day?

I'm not doing too much really:

- Shellac nails - maybe french tip or just a nude colour
- Hair done week before wedding, but I do this ever 8 weeks anyway
- Sun bedding (wouldn't normally do this, but don't like spray tans on me and my October wedding won't give me a chance to get a natural tan!)

In general, I've been taking better care of my skin at home and drinking a lot of water as part of my pre-wedding weight shred.

How about you? What primping will you do in the lead up to your wedding?

I’m not planning on too much either.

I’m getting my hair touched up the Saturday before (just had it done last weekend so will get me through till then) – nothing special, but seeing my hair style is down, I need those split ends removed LOL am considering some highlights just to add some depth to my down hairstyle – but just spent the last 3.5 years growing the colour out of my hair, I’m not sure if I want to do it all over again.

The Friday before I have booked in nails – going with acrylics – but I usually have these or gel polish on, so nothing out of the ordinary.

The Thursday before I am considering getting my eyebrows shaped/touched up – I usually do this, but thought if I got it done professionally they’ll be able to make sure they are perfect LOL also considering getting eyelash extensions at the same time – but not too sure on this…

Otherwise I’ve just been sticking with my usual routine and will be from here on in – don’t want to change anything in case it causes a major breakout or reaction.  And what I am doing is working for me, so why change.

Otherwise that’s all I’m planning well, besides the obvious tidy up areas etc LOL

Wow - I feel a bit of a Bridezilla reading your low-maintenance plans   Roll Eyes

I've battled with adult acne forever, so I went to the doctor and got a prescription for Isontreninoin in preparation for the wedding and now my skin is looking fab! I also invested in a super-hydrating gel to put on my 30-something skin every night and have started using my eye cream every night...as I probably should have been for years already  Roll Eyes

I'm also using plenty of rich body lotion on my decolletage and arms (especially my elbows!  every morning and night...other than my face, that's gonna be the only part of me you can see in my dress so it's gotta look goooood.

I'm also using a deep conditioning hair mask once a week and plan to get my eyebrows shaped...and maybe try eyelash extensions, but might talk to my makeup artist before then to see what she thinks of them, since she's gonna be the expert on the day.

I'll be getting my nails done the day before the wedding too - just a french manicure on my natural nails. Not usually one for getting my nails done profesh so don't want to make things too different on the day...aside from all the other "work" I'm putting in!

Trying to get FH to do something about the grey hairs that are fast invading his temples but he's not buying it - even when I point out allll the things I'm doing in preparation   Tongue

Rin - how long did it take for the Isontreninion to clear up your skin?  I have issues with acne on my back which i'm starting to stress about showing in my dress....nerver thought of getting a Dr to look at it (dah!!) my beautition wasnt particularly helpful either.

Hehe yes I'm a bit worried about my 30-something skin but FH has forbidden botox so am trying every potion possible to try turn back/pause time! Using rosehip oil as well as various moisturisers. Will prob get french nails for wedding (on my own, not false) but my nails split easily so will probably start taking a supplement to see if I can strengthen them. Will probably get a spray tan the day before the ceremony. And am probably going to start a course of microdermabrasion shortly...want a good canvas for the makeup artist to work with! Will definitely get brows shaped and tinted. And highlights in my hair the week or two before the wedding. Think that should be enough!

Mrsj2be - apparently adding gelatine into your diet is meant to help strengthen nails... I had been told by a couple of people as well as my mum, so mentioned it to my nail lady who confirmed it - I haven't tried it yet though so not sure if it actually does work.

I've been on it 6 weeks and, admittedly, my spots got worse before they got better - but that only lasted about 10 days and now I'm spot-free as well as oil-free (I used to get super-shiny during the day and n amount of special "shine-free makeup" would fix it). I've been on it before, when I was about 17, and it worked a treat then - Doc says a course of 4-5 months should do it, but my skin is super-clear and in tip-top condition already at only 6 weeks. My face was my main concern, but my back (which was a bit of an issue before too) is now all clear as well. It's fairly hard-core medicine (have to have 3-monthly blood tests to make sure it's not messing with my liver and I'm forbidden from getting pregnant while on it as well as a month after I stop) but I think it's worth it for glowing, spot-free skin on my wedding day   Smiley

Anyone got any ideas for black heads?

Ive always had them, mostly on my nose, but also my chin. I exfoliate 3 times a week and have tried everything else (over the counter anyway). I have oily skin in the T zone.

I've thought about microdermabrasion but it sounds kinda painful (im a woss) and I dont like the sound of have a red face for two days after each one. My wedding is 4 months out - so I guess if im going to do it, I should do it soon.

Anyone else had microdermabrasion?

MrsC2b,

When you mean you've tried exfoliating, I'm guessing you mean with manual exfoliants (ie. scrubs) rather than with chemical exfoliants (AHAs/glyclolic acid/BHA/beta hydroxy acid)??

If so, have a read of this article!: http://www.cosmeticscop.com/exfoliate-for-bright-smooth-and-radiant-skin.aspx

There are links to products from there too (I use the Paula's Choice 2% BHA gel, on the NZ version of that website) and you should find better results and oil-control from 'chemical' exfoliants.  Sounds bad, I know, but everything's a 'chemical' in the cosmetics world and they're naturally occurring.  They work by unhinging the 'glue' that holds the cells of the outer layer of skin together, for exfoliation that happens over time.  And the BHA exfoliants even penetrate into the pore to remove oil/debri from pore lining, unlike AHA's.

For my acne-prone skin this is my most essential product/item.

I have never really done anything for my skin or rarely worn makeup, except when going out for the night. So i decided i would get a skin analysis done with the aim of regular facials leading up to the wedding. The skin care lady reccommended a 4-step routine: cleanse then tone then moisturise, and an eye cream to use.

I have really noticed the difference with the eye cream and the lines and bags are looking much better! But with my skin, whereas i used to have like bumpy (rather than spotty skin) i now seem to have actual spot breakouts. Sad Ive been doing it for probably 2 and a bit months and now i am thinking that the products i am using might not be right and perhaps i should change to something else?? I have never usually used anything more than just water morning and night and maybe moisturise when my face felt dry but no routine
Anyone got any ideas or suggestions about what i should do?  Undecided Wedding is 4th Jan so i dont want to wait too long before i change it again incase that doesnt work either argghhhh so confusing!

I've had "problem skin" all my life and have spent hundreds on going to see beauty therapists when it turned out I should've listened to my doctor in the first place all along. She recommended Cetaphil face wash and moisturiser - I thought 'nah...you can buy that at the supermarket so it can't be any good' but I finally tried it (after loads of other fancy expensive products from my facialist) and it's the best thing I've ever used. It's really mild but cleans my skin so nicely. I use the face wash and the moisturiser, morning and night, and then a Dermalogica eye cream.
