The Proposal During the week Ben asked me if I wanted to go out for a nice dinner on Friday night. I was like, sweet, I wouldn’t say no to a nice night out with my best friend!
I was very interested to know why the lovely date. I found out that we were going to the Sky Tower for dinner. This got me very suspicious as we don’t get to go out for nice meal like that unless it’s a special occasion.
During my Friday a work I talked to my work mates about Ben taking me out to the Sky Tower and they all got excited ask “do you think he’s going to propose tonight?” I was nervous and excited at the same time! I really hoped so!
We went to the Sky Tower and had a lovely meal. He seemed to be going to the bathroom a lot and I was beginning to think he must be really nervous or something. He said he wanted to take me somewhere else for dessert so we finished our meal and off we went.
We are driving along and I am asking where are we going, whats it like? We started heading in the opposite direction than he said we would be going and before long were parked up. It was raining, “we are going for a little walk he said”, but its raining and my hair will go fluffy!” Ben had packed an umbrella and a hooded jersey for me to put over my head (he’s so sweet!). We started walking to the place where we had our first valentines but there where security guards and we decided maybe we would walk along the outside of the fence. Then we decided to jump it. (I was thinking, I hope this is worth it). He piggy backed me along the grass, so I didn’t ruin my shoes in the wet grass until we got to a band rotunda where it just looked amazing! There were candles everywhere and as we walked up the steps I saw a little picnic set out with petals and chocolate and wine and all this yummy stuff. It was quite cool, so we snuggled into a nice cuddly warm blanket and drank some wine and ate chocolate and strawberries. It was lovely.
He went over to the chilly bin to see what else there was for us and pulled out my Teddy bear Brian (Ben had given it to me on our first valentines day in the same park). And tied to his arm in a red ribbon was the ring, Ben said all these lovely words and on one knee asked me to marry him!
I woke up to my bridesmaids jumping onto my bed. It had come so fast. My day was finally here.
We had a lovely breakfast of bagels and bacon and eggs. It was a beautiful day outside. Everything went really smoothly and we were ready nice and early. It was time for the first of the official photographs to be taken. So we got into our dresses. Man, I remember being so excited.
Then the journey in that beautiful Jaguar. It felt like for ever. My parents were with me and my bridesmaids were in the Mercedes following. We arrived at the church. I remember one of my sisters in law started to say some lovely words to me and I almost bawled. We quickly lined up ready to walk in. I could see a few of my friends inside, we smiled huge smiles to one another. The music started. Christmas Present by Rocket Summer. The girls walked in to the awesome musical piece, and then it was my turn. With Dad in my arm, we walked to the end of the isle and waited while the lyrics played. We love those words. The music built up again and up the aisle I walked. Staring at my husband to be. It was the best feeling.
The ceremony went quite fast. I remember looking around at the great job our friends had done with the decorations and all our family and friends smiling at us. The only mishap we had was one line into Ben starting his vows; one of our groomsmen fainted and fell flat onto his face. It was very scary but the main thing was to see if he was going to be ok. Ben's mum (a nurse) ran up to the stage and held him and talked to him and he came to. Once he realised what had happened he looked up to Ben and said “Sorry Ben”. It was such a relief and so cute.
We carried on with the ceremony. Its was so awesome. We had our Dads give their blessing and our Mums light each of our candles. One of my friends read 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 about how Love never fails.
We walked out to Best Friend by Weezer. It was time to relax. It was great once we went out the doors we stayed there and everyone came flowing past with lots of hugs and complements and reassurance that the best weddings are the ones where a groomsman faints.
We had heaps of family photos and a huge group shot of everyone there, they were all loads of fun.
We went to Cornwall Park and Mt Victoria for our photos and had a photo or two in front of the Band Rotunda where Ben Proposed. It was such a good time. Some of our friends had made us all a big picnic basket with lots of goodies to eat and drink and fuel us for more fun.
We got to the reception, freshened up. Walked in to Beautiful Day by U2. Had awesome speeches. A beautiful meal. And then more people came and we partied! We had the best DJ (Rocket DJ) and had the best party of our lives. Everyone really got into it and just had a good time. The dance floor was packed.
Once we were all partied out, we got our driver to take us back to our hotel. The next day we went back to my parents to have brunch with all our family and to open all our presents. We were amazed at how generous everyone was.
We went back to our hotel that afternoon. The next very early morning we went on our honeymoon to the Beautiful Rarotonga.
I must say. I am so so happy with our day; it couldn’t have been more perfect. Everyone just pulled together and helped make it work.
