The Proposal Oh the proposal was so romantic! We were living on the gold coast, Australia and Jake had cooked me dinner and we decided to go for a walk along the beach on sunset. It was a gorgeous red skyed sunset and he proposed to me then and there. I cried and jumped up and down. Was so excited
The Planning We planned our wedding in 10 months, on returning to New Zealand to live. It was all I wanted to do, once I got back.
I pretty much did it all myself, with some help from my mum and my bridesmaids of course. I made the invitations, the favours of mints and hersheys kisses in a small box and the table name place cards. We used vases filled with blue water and a yellow gerbera floating on top with blue/green glass stones around the outside of the vase. We also used blue/green organza to decorate with tea light candles also.
We didn't really have a theme as such, other than the colours of blue and yellow, which were on the tables and the bridesmaids dresses with yellow roses. The cake matched too.
The Ceremony Our ceremony was really special, after being together for nearly 8 years, it was meant to be. Our celebrant had captured us as a couple really well. Also my grandfather had been diagnosed with heart failure the year before and he was able to make it to our wedding.
We were so lucky to have a good few friends travel from Australia to be with us.
In some ways, the wedding was quite traditional; we slept apart the night before and I had all the right attire, something old was my Grandma's handkerchief, new was my dress, blue was my garter, borrowed was my Mum's necklace.
The Reception The food!! It was outstanding, everyone enjoyed it and told us so too, we really got to chill out at that stage and really enjoy the atmosphere.
The Dress My dress was bought from avon bridal, and it took me a while to decide as I had liked so many dresses but this was a definited stand out for it's fit and style.
My bridesmaids Amanda, Tash, Michelle and Jess wore stunning silvery blue silk dress with an organza overlay covered in diamontes and crystals. I bought these from an Australian designer Diana Fres.
Cars Well a bit of a story with this one, we had a stretch Chevy Bel-Air which was awesome. And to my surprise on the day, a Ford Mustang pulled up also, mum had organised that one, thanks mum!
Most Romantic Moment The most romantic moment is a hard one to pinpoint, saying our vows was definitely a highlight but so was Jake's speech to me, and lastly the end of the night when well I won't mention that part.
The Funniest Moment The funniest moment was when our MC told numerous jokes and finished on a song which had everyone roaring with laughter, thanks Bob.
Our Best Decision Our best decision was to get married! If I could do anything differently it would be to have a sunny warm day as it was cool and rained on and off.
The Honeymoon We took a short honeymoon to Nelson, it was so relaxing and we took a couple to day trips up to motueka and Kaiteriteri, love those golden beachs and sunny weather.
I love married life, I could reccommend to anyone who was contemplating it. The day is just so much fun, and although it can be costly the memories will last a life time. If I had to give any advice, really think about your day and how you would like it go, you only get one chance so may as well make it the best.
