This could be a very long story as Heath and I have been together for 10 years, since I was 15 and Heath 16 but I will keep it short and sweet. We met when we were 13 as our parents were friends and worked together. We went to family friends dinners and parties - we didn't think much of each other. Then we went to high school, saw each other across the field and that's where it all changed. We fell in love and 8 years later we got engaged.
Organising our wedding went very smoothly, Heath and I had the same expectations and tastes. It was organising our honeymoon which was the nightmare! Early in the year we had booked and paid for Fiji and about 4 weeks out they announced the coup. Although we were very excited about the wedding we were so looking forward to going on an overseas holiday because during our 10 year relationship we had never been overseas together. So when people would ask me "how are your wedding plans going, are you getting stressed?" I would say "its not the wedding that's stressing me out, its the honeymoon!"
We had an outside wedding at a vineyard in Canterbury so all morning I was concerned about the weather (as most brides are!). It would pour down one minute then be beautiful sunshine the next. But when the cars arrived to pick up my dad, my bridesmaids and myself the sun was shining and stayed shining all day. Our wedding day was perfect. We even had a white dove randomly flying over us during our ceremony. We also had a fabulous time on our honeymoon in Fiji , we were a wee bit concerned about the coup but in the end the only thing that effected us was that we didn't get to go on boating trips or cruises due to the fact there was not enough people at the resort - which wasn't such a bad thing!
Heath and I decided to do something a bit different. Instead me taking Heath's last name, he took mine. But don't think he did this because he is 'under the thumb'..... My last name means a lot to me and my family and it will end with my younger intellectually handicapped brother. Although Heath's last name will end with him too as his mum has remarried and Heath's sister will be taking her partners last name, Heath really wanted to become more a part of my family and he knew how much it meant to me and although he had copped a lot of slack from his friends initially, we all really respect and love him more and more for it.
